A Journey Through Taste
Leslie specialized in gastronomic illustrations, most of which designed through colorpencils and kraft paper, in an attempt to represent a unique retro flavor. She believes that “food” is a common language between different cultures, and that the culture of gastronomy must be celebrated and the taste may have a visual sense or even other range of senses.
The Exhibition Programme A Gastronomia e o Resto (Gastronomy and The Rest) allows us to show how an exhibition can, throughout its duration, mutate. Within this programme, Quinta da Cruz – Contemporary Art Centre presented the concept of “rest”in gastronomy, not the “leftovers”, the “reheated” or the “unfresh”, but the “rest”, as a live place, to be optimised and reinvented - stimuli and restlessness that define this “house’s” project. During the year in which the driving theme was Viseu – Destination Of Gastronomy, we were agents and promoters of artists; we began the creation of collections by commission. We convened, within this territory, talented illustrators that created unique and versatile stories through an essential daily action: sitting at the table! And, truthfully, who doesn’t like to eat? The narrative of this exhibition programme, which took place between July and November, began with A Journey Through Taste by Leslie Wang, which was displayed throughout the entire cycle. She created a sensorial path through works that she had done in Portugal (2015) until her artistic residency in Viseu (2019), where she experienced our region’s flavours.
